Rucksteady is built to be honest about your data - the same way it is honest about your calories. This version keeps your rucking on your device.
Your rucks stay on your device
Your finished rucks - the session (distance, pace, elevation, load, calories), your route trace, and any titles, notes, or photos you add - are stored on your iPhone. This version has no account and no cloud sync, so none of that is sent anywhere. You can delete any ruck in the app at any time.
Apple Health
To keep the calorie estimate honest, Rucksteady reads a few things from Apple Health - your body weight, height, biological sex, and date of birth. That data is used only on your device to calculate calories. It is never transmitted off your device, never used for advertising or marketing, and never sold or shared with data brokers. When you finish a ruck, Rucksteady writes it to Apple Health as a hiking workout (time, distance, active energy, and route), so your history is never trapped in the app.
Location
With your permission, Rucksteady uses your location to record your route, distance, pace, and climb while you ruck, and to show your local weather. Your routes stay on your device. You can decline location and still track a ruck by time and load.
Maps
Map tiles are served by Mapbox. The Mapbox SDK collects de-identified location and usage telemetry to improve its map services; you can opt out from the information (ⓘ) menu on any map. See Mapbox’s privacy policy.
What we don't do
No analytics, no crash reporters, no remote logging, no advertising, no trackers, and no selling your data - to anyone, ever.
What's coming
A future version will add an optional account (Sign in with Apple) and cloud sync so your rucks can follow you across devices and onto the web. When that ships, this page will spell out exactly what leaves your device and what stays on it. Until then, everything above is the whole story.
